WRITING FOUR-STAR SENTENCES

1-STAR Change/add specific nouns and vivid verbs to your sentence.
2-STAR Add descriptive adjectives and adverbs to your sentence.
3-STAR Add additional details at the end of your sentence to explain how or why.
4-STAR Change the order of the details to the beginning (using a comma)



WRITING A SUMMARY OR A RESPONSE

Below you will find an outline of what is expected in a summary or a basic written response. You may use this to guide your thinking as you write your own responses. Remember that there are must-haves in every piece of writing, whether you are writing a short story or a response to a question.


I. Introduction (First Paragraph)
lead, TAG (title, author, genre), important characters (traits and role), setting
(time and place), problem/conflict (main idea), theme, transition/cliffhanger sentence

II. Body Paragraph (Second Paragraph)
opening sentence
most important events (in order)
use transition words
use good word choice
use sentence variety
closing sentence


YOU MUST ALWAYS INCLUDE THE MAGIC #3 IN YOUR BODY PARAGRAPH(S)
WITH YOUR THOUGHTS AND EXAMPLES ABOUT THE TOPIC, UNLESS TOLD
OTHERWISE!
